I did manage some detours, one to read all about the 1948/18 tank losses by the French, then another couple for food, money etc.i ticked off most of my jobs list, except for sim card and hi lift jack.
At one point, I almost got taken out by a guy racing across multiple lanes to use the bit of road I occupied and almost at days end, I found fuel at a good price, so turned into the garage, only to have the Landy bounce over a long concrete divider which I'm guessing was meant to stop people entering that way, but it wasn't visible st night! I was a bit shocked as the truck made a lot of noise as it bounced over, but the Landy was fine, so I filled up and left quietly.
The dry weather only lasted an hour, then I was driving along the leading edge of front which was trying its best to dump a lot if wet snow behind me. I kept going and eventually outran it, or it was moving in a slightly different direction to me, which lead me back into dry roads again.
As I got near Grenoble, the temperature climbed noticeably, a balmy 8 degrees!
At Chaumentais, I drove under a 3 tier viaduct built in the 1850's and still going strong today. 54 trains daily traversed that bridge!
At 9pm, I parked up for the night in a lay by and slept deeply till 7am.
Next day was more of the same. Except now I was in mountain country. The Vercors were glowing nicely and although the roads were slimy, there wasn't much snow left for the most part from the last big dump. I finally sorted where to get a Sim card from, but then couldn't register it, so try again tomorrow. Problem is I'll be in Italy soon and need a different one again.
Another night parked up, this time next to a lake 100km north of Nice. I'll drop down to the seaside tomorrow, try again for the jack. Then head into Italy I think.
